At Family BBQ’s, the typical rhetoric goes: how are you? Are you still single? What are you doing with yourself? “Oh so I work at a company called Ambit, we create and sell a B2B enterprise grade platform-as-a-service, delivering conversational artificial intelligence.” Is roughly the sentence I find myself telling each who asks these questions.
Hi, my name is Maddie and I am the Human Resources Administrator at Ambit. It has been 3 months now since I began my journey at Ambit, so I thought I would share with you my experience and observations so far.
It is well known that tech – particularly software development – is a field largely dominated by men. Here at Ambit, we pride ourselves on the fact that 1/3rd of our staff are women! We have each others backs, and we empower each other to strive for more than what we think we can do. While at the same time, we thrive in the team as a whole. The women at Ambit consist of Conversational Experience Designer – Abby, Product Specialist – Frances , UX Designer – Zel and me, HR Administrator. The men are equally as cool (in case you were wondering), and together, we are a creative force to be reckoned with.
Ambit sports a highly diverse team of bilingual, multicultural tech wiz’s. Our employee’s can speak: Te Reo, Russian, Vietnamese, Filipino, Spanish, and one can even speak.. Australian . Do you know any of these languages? Or any others to contribute? Our bots will start chatting multilingually soon – would be great to add or strengthen to those existing. Ambit’s cultural diversity is something I am very proud of and want to encourage more of – as it helps us relate to and communicate with our customers and their users at a deeper level.
Ambit Social is in the full front. We have bi-weekly Friday drinks in the office, and a monthly lunch out as a team called “Feedback Fridays”. Every Thursday we do an (unofficial) Toastmasters session to help improve our public speaking. An initiative brought about by Frances as she wanted to share all the wonderful skills she is learning with us. Exercises include giving table topics to do impromptu speaking that enable people to test their public speaking skills, and in turn develop them. We are currently in the process of integrating more ideas to enhance our already fun and social workplace. Bring yours along!
We are located in sunny Grey Lynn, Auckland in a shared office space. We have Ice-cream Tuesdays, which means we get FREE ice-cream every Tuesday – and not just your run of the mill, I’m talkin’ Magnums, Cookie Crumbles, and Trumpets. Friday afternoons are for potato chips, beers/wines and fizzy drinks for non-drinkers. Maybe we need a gym too….oh yes, I’m told we have a discounted membership at the local sweat room!
