I just watched the film “Multiplicity” from back in the 90s. It’s a story about a guy who had too much on his plate. Menial activities like work and admin kept him away from his wife, his family, and other things he was passionate about.
So when he found a way to clone himself, he proceeded to do just that. He used his clones to do all the humdrum activities and tedious tasks that always kept him from doing the things that he really wanted to do.
It’s 22 years later and although we aren’t cloning ourselves (yet), chatbots are an exciting new technology that’s in the process of evolving into the next best thing, and many companies are beginning to take advantage of this. Large US retailer Nordstrom has been using chatbots since 2016, online and bricks and mortar stores like Glassons are working with them and of course, Google and Amazon have been on the chatbot bandwagon for years. What makes this experience unique is that these types of chatbots are able to react to the answers given, branch out to other sets of questions, or even react accordingly to emotional inputs from the person answering the questions.
